I've always been interested in stats, and loved to see 'computer' generated rankings, like in college football, golf, tennis, etc. I felt putting together these rankings for sprint car drivers would be interesting.
I started to compile all race results for 410 winged sprint car races. Based upon these results, I put together a formula to rank the drivers.
A simple breakdown of my formula would be...
• 20% money
• 30% wins
• 50% avg finish
My formula breaks each of those section down even more, where I value wins and average finish based on the level of competition. To help, I also rank each race, based on the level of rankings of drivers there, car counts, and purse. A perfect rating would be 1.0.
